Pity the Trade for a minute: far too many brands to consider with far too little space/shelves to accommodate them. Tough selection criteria … the few brand ‘leaders’, of course and, oh yes, which is the appropriate Challenger Brand? Room for one, maybe two [dependent on margin] …

The ability for an aspiring Challenger Brand to flex its [potential] muscles on TV has always been the ultimate aim for Brand managers, and this is still true today. For consumer pull-through, undoubtedly the most effective bit of kit in the marcoms armoury. For the Trade, it’s the same today too – they love TV, right?
